Splatoon Was Only 10 Percent Complete at E3 2014

During the latest Iwata Asks, Nintendo's president and CEO chatted with the development studio behind the upcoming third-person shooter game, Splatoon.

In the discussion, several tidbits of interesting information were revealed, including the fact that when the game was first shown off at last year's E3, it was only 10 percent complete. "At E3, we only had one weapon," Nintendo developer Tsubasa Sakaguchi told Satoru Iwata. "We only had one stage, and only a mock-up of the sequence. So when we returned from E3, our big issue was figuring out how to turn all that into a product."

Additionally, the team discussed the game's very early beginnings, in which the characters weren't the cute little squid-transforming kids you see today. No, instead they were tofu-like black and white cubes. "There was a white thing and a black thing shaped like blocks of tofu, and they were shooting ink and they had to steal each other’s turf," Splatoon dev Hisashi Nogami said.

The release of Splatoon is nearly upon us! Will you be picking up the Wii U-exclusive ink-filled shooter when it arrives on May 29? Don't forget there will be one final global demo session this weekend.
