GameStop Responds to Deus Ex: Human Revolution Fiasco, Pulls All Regular PC Copies

After Square Enix offered a free copy of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for OnLive with every copy of the PC version, mega-retailer and soon-to-be OnLive competitor, GameStop began to do the only reasonable thing: They secretly removed the code for the cloud service – without telling customers.

With the scandal having hit the web, GameStop has responded by selling the complete game as it should be removing the game altogether. According to an apparently leaked email and several other reports, GameStop are pulling all copies of the regular version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and refunding anyone who returns the game. The games will be returned to the vendor "in an agreement with Square Enix".

Sadly, the whole event will likely have a huge impact on future freebies from OnLive, with publishers set to be far more hesitant about including the free code.
