Valve Changes Trade Scam Policies on Steam

Plenty of Steam users try to enact scams through trading, and typically Valve aids folks who lose in-game items from those scams. According to a new policy change, that will no longer be the case.

The updated Steam Trading Q&A page outlines the process. It states that trade scams can be avoided, so Valve will not help users recover lost in-game items.

"We sympathize with people who fall victim to scams, but we provide enough information on our website and within our trading system to help users make good trading decisions," it states. "All trade scams can be avoided."

The policy change frees up some of Valve's customer service budget, an area that needs improvement based on user feedback. Now that Valve won't have to spend time verifying trades, perhaps it will allow the company to respond to users on a more frequent basis.
