Former Microsoft Boss Says Xbox One’s Problems Were “Predictable and Preventable”

Robbie Bach, the former president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, has offered up his two cents on the disastrous reveal of Xbox One, going so far as to say many of the company's mistakes under Don Mattrick could have been completely avoided.

"I have two thoughts," Bach told GeekWire. "The first is, gosh, I think some of that was predictable and preventable. If I'm just honest I would say that. These console competitions last 5, 6, 7, 8 years. I think it shows in the marketplace today."

Now, however, things are looking much brighter for Microsoft's gaming division, as Phil Spencer has been able to right the ship following Mattrick's departure. "I think Xbox One has put almost all of that behind itself," Bach added. "They’ve got a great holiday lineup. They’re gaining share and volume. … The amazing thing is the console market is bigger now than it’s ever been before. Both companies are selling more units."

There's no doubt that Sony's massive lead over Microsoft right now in the console space has a lot to do with the botched reveal of Xbox One. The Big M upset a lot of gamers that first year, and Sony wisely capitalized on that with PlayStation 4.

Do you think Microsoft will ever be able to narrow the massive lead PS4 console sales currently have over Xbox One? Both boxes have been incredibly successful, but there's no denying Sony's dominance in the space at present.
