THQ: “We have NOT canceled Christmas 2014”

The games press/media/blogging community always wants to jump on a story or a possible story as soon as a few controversial words hit the Internet. Sometimes these news stories are in fact news, but other times, they are complete fabrications. THQ suffered from this over the weekend.

IGDA Mobile SIG chair Kevin Dent tweeted that THQ was in such financial dire that the company was canceling its entire 2014 lineup, including Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium Online.

THQ has promptly squashed this rumor by giving VG247 the following statement:

THQ has not canceled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO.

You can't get much clearer than that.

The THQ reps further explained that they were withdrawing from their "kids's boxed games sector" due to poor performances of past kids games, especially uDraw.

Considering that Saints Row the Third and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine both did very well, it makes sense for THQ to focus on hardcore games like these and move away from games that did not keep them in the black as much as they liked.

However, I hope such hardcore games include another Warhammer 40 game that isn't a MMO. The MMO sounds cool, but I'd like a game that either continues Captain Titus' story or focuses on the Space Wolves faction of the order.
