Resident Evil To Remain Action-Focused, Dreams Of Call of Duty

Yesterday's big news came from Capcom's Resident Evil 6 reveal. Those sons of bitches made a segment in our podcast moot by announcing the game before we could get the podcast published. In the upcoming episode of GameRevolution Radio, due to publish later today, Nick, Daniel and I talked about the series getting back to the "survival horror" roots rather than sticking with the steroid-filled action horror prevelant throughout Resident Evil 5. After we saw the new trailer, it was clear that survival horror is dead to Resident Evil, and here's why.

While speaking to MCV Magazine, Capcom UK's head of marketing, Dave Turner, explained the series' action focus:

We've seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action-oriented – Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series. So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully.

He further added, referring to the upcoming Operation Raccoon City:

The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil.

There you have it, folks. Fucking Call of Duty. Every goddamn publisher wants a piece of Call of Duty's billion-dollar pie. Soon, all that will be on the market is Call of Duty clones.

Vote below: Would you rather have a survival horror Resident Evil, or do you agree that the more it's like Call of Duty, the better?

If you feel strongly about this subject, don't miss today's episode of GameRevolution Radio. That, and look out for more Resident Evil coverage from Nick Tan, who attended Capcom's Fright Night in San Franciso last night.
