The Crew Is 2x More Popular than any Other Racer This Gen, The Crew 2 Breaks Beta Records

During today’s earnings call, Ubisoft founder Yves Guillemot revealed that The Crew 2 has more beta registrants than any other game in the company’s history. Although no number was revealed, previously Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands held the record with 6.8 million participants.

Guillemot added that The Crew currently stands at 12 million registered users. This figure more than doubles that any other racing game has achieved this generation, including releases in the Need for Speed and Forza franchises.

The Crew received lukewarm reception at launch for a number of reasons, including technical issues and clunky driving mechanics. Even then, it demonstrated the series’ potential for delivering an open-world racing environment that encourages exploration and experimentation.

The Crew 2 will include races on the ground, sea, and sky, with environments including the Grand Canyon, Mississippi River, and Rocky Mountains. It’s currently scheduled for a release in Q1 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
