Microsoft Patents Projector Tech For Xbox 720

At this point, I'd say it's safe to assume that Microsoft plans to launch its next console alongside the some sort of Kinect 2.0. Up until now, all we've really had to go on were a handful of rumors and speculation based on old patents, but now a new patent filed by Microsoft appears to fill in some of the missing pieces.

A few months ago, when we first got wind that the company was planning on implementing some sort of Kinect-enabled 3D glasses (dubbed Fortaleza), we knew Microsoft had something a bit more ambitious up their sleeve, but thanks to the discovery of a new "environmental display" patent (courtesy of Patently Apple), the company's newfound direction is becoming a bit more clear.

According to the patent (via CVG), this new projector-based tech is said to display an entire 3D world all across your gaming space, and will supposedly be visible while wearing the Kinect glasses. This "immersive display environment is provided to a human user by projecting a peripheral image onto environmental surfaces around the user. The peripheral images serve as an extension to a primary image displayed on a primary display."

Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. Count me in!
