Monster Hunter World Will Not Be Adding Leviathan Monster Lagiacrus in Future Updates

Capcom has revealed that the leviathan monster Lagiacrus will not be appearing in Monster Hunter World or in any future content updates. This might disappoint many veteran Monster Hunter players who remember the classic monster since he first appeared in Monster Hunter 3, which was released back in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii.

This news was unveiled during the recently held Monster Hunter World Postmortem: Concept Design through Prototyping and Iteration panel at GDC 2018. Monster Hunter World game director Yuya Tokuda confirmed that the fearsome Sea Wyvern did not make it into the final version of the game.

Tokuda explained that the monster Lagiacrus was initially included in the game’s prototype before being removed in the final version. The prototype footage shown at the panel depicted how hunters in Monster Hunter World would utilize the new environmental features in battles. The video shows a hunter tracking an Anjanath and luring it up to a waterfall, before being swept up by the water currents. It was then that a Lagiacrus appeared and made a meal out of the Anjanath.

The game recently received a major patch with the 2.00 update, where Capcom added another classic monster, Deviljho, and a new quest titled “The Food Chain Dominator”, as well as new armor and weapons. For more details, we have the complete patch notes right here.

After just around two months of being released, Monster Hunter World has managed to break records for being the best-selling Capcom game in history with 7.5 million units shipped worldwide and being the fastest Capcom game to ship six million units, within less than two weeks. In other related news, Capcom recently announced a collaboration between Monster Hunter World and Devil May Cry, with the purpose of celebrating the release of the Devil May Cry HD Collection.

Monster Hunter World was originally released on 25th January 2018. It was released on the PS4 and Xbox One but a PC version is coming soon at an unspecified date. In our review, we gave it a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
