PS4 Fifth Anniversary Celebrated With Console Bundle, Infographic Details Milestones Hit

The PS4 fifth anniversary is here and Sony is celebrating by sharing some cool facts about the console’s history and announcing a brand-new bundle for their console. The bundle is centered around Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and features a standard jet-black console.

A PlayStation Blog post by PlayStation Worldwide Marketing Senior Vice President Eric Lempel has all of the fine details. In the five years since its launch, the PlayStation 4 has sold 86.1 million units worldwide. Software sales were equally respectable. 777.9 million units of software were moved since the console’s launch five years ago, making for an average of just over 9 games per PS4. The platform’s operating system has seen 11 major updates in the years leading up to the PS4 fifth anniversary.

As part of the celebrations for the PS4 fifth anniversary, Sony is launching a Call of Duty Black Ops 4 PS4 bundle. The bundle includes a physical copy of Call of Duty Black Ops 4, a black PlayStation 4 with a 1 TB hard drive, and a matching DualShock 4 controller. The choice of Black Ops 4 is apt considering that two of the top five best-selling titles were Call of Duty games (namely, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and Call of Duty WWII). The bundle will be priced at $299.99, or your regional equivalent, and will be available at participating retailers on November 27, 2018.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 certainly makes a fine choice for the game to come with the PS4 fifth anniversary bundle. Although the game has made some fundamental changes to things like time to kill, it nonetheless stands as an excellent iteration of the CoD formula from developer Treyarch. (It probably helps that they’ve been involved with the franchise since the days before Modern Warfare was a thing.)

Take a look at the full infographic below, which details many impressive milestones that the PS4 has reached.
