Red Dead Redemption Is Coming to PS4 and Switch But It Isn’t Remastered

After weeks of speculation, we finally have news about Red Dead Redemption, and it’s not what everyone was hoping for. Rockstar recently confirmed that the iconic game will be coming to PS4 and Switch next week.

Still no PC port, unfortunately

The developer broke the silence in a post over on the company website. Both Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare DLC will be made available on the aforementioned Sony and Nintendo systems on August 17.

It seems a little strange that Rockstar would port the game to the PS4 rather than the current-gen equivalent. However, the post goes on to say that RDR will have backwards compatibility for the PS5.

The game will be priced at $50 upon release, which may seem excessive for a 13-year old title. Indeed, fans over on Reddit have already expressed their displeasure at having to pay a high price for what appears to be just a straight port; not a remaster or enhanced edition of some kind.

Those on Switch may benefit a little, seeing as Red Dead Redemption never made it onto a Nintendo console in the first instance. However, the fact that it’s also not being ported to the PC will alienate more potential players.

Despite Rockstar saying in a tweet that RDR was coming to “modern PlayStation systems,” many will see the upcoming availability on PS4 as a slight step backwards.

On top of that, a lot of Red Dead Redemption fans were hoping for a remaster or remake. Rumors began to circulate that a new take on the critically acclaimed wild west game was possibly in development. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case now.

Also, it looks as though the re-release won’t feature multiplayer, either.
