Rumor: Next Xbox Will Be Backwards Compatible With 360 Add-On

A recent report suggests that the next Xbox won't be able to play Xbox 360 games, which has no doubt proven to be a major disappointment for some. Whether or not this rumor bears any weight remains to be seen, but considering the fact that Sony's abandoning PS3 content with its new console, what's to say Microsoft won't do the same?

Fortunately, a new report from VGLeaks suggests that the Big M has a solution to the problem. Apparently the company plans to sell an Xbox 360 add-on that will allow gamers to play all of their old content—including XBLA games, digital downloads, and retail discs—on the Xbox 720. Remember the HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360? Word has it that it will be something like that.

The rumor goes on to suggest that the new console won't require a constant internet connection and won't block used games. Apparently the system itself will always connect to the internet, but such a connection won't be required to play local content.

With reports on both sides of the fence, it's hard to know for sure exactly what Microsoft is planning. What do you think we'll see from them when the console is finally unveiled? Let us know in the comments below.
