The Last of Us 2 | Which spacesuit helmet should I pick at the museum?

In The Last of Us 2, one of the flashbacks shows Joel taking Ellie to a museum for her birthday. Amongst the exhibits, there is a series of spacesuits. As part of the story, you’ll need to pick one of three spacesuit helmets for Ellie to wear.

Given a choice like this, you’ll likely wonder if it matters what spacesuit helmet you wear in The Last of Us 2. We’ll go into about this section of the game and which choices you can make below.

Which spacesuit helmet should I choose in The Last of Us 2

At the end of Seattle – Day One, we enter a flashback as Ellie drifts off to sleep. It takes place three years before The Last of Us 2 and has Joel taking Ellie to the Wyoming Museum of Science and History for her birthday.

There’s a lot of cool stuff in the museum, and you should definitely have a look around. Ellie is especially excited about the space section, and Joel’s big surprise for her concerns this topic. He tells Ellie he’ll give her the present in the Apollo Capsule, which serves as the exhibit’s centerpiece, but first, she needs a helmet.

There is a semi-circle of spacesuits facing the capsule, but you only get to pick from three of them:

  • Mercury
  • Gemini
  • Launch-Entry Suit

Each of these helmets has a lot of history behind them, and you’d think that this choice would lead to alternate scenes or at least some changed dialog. However, it doesn’t really matter which one you pick. Other than the slight cosmetic differences between the helmets, the cutscene where Joel gives Ellie her birthday present plays out precisely the same. This is just a fun choice that encourages you to have a look at the suits.
