How to knock Yoshitsune off his perch in the Nioh 2 The Tengu’s Disciple DLC

Figuring out how to knock Yoshitsune off his perch in the Nioh 2 The Tengu’s Disciple DLC is going to take some skill. He’s a fairly quick boss and that is a hard fight. You’re going to want to do this for the Tengu Crusher trophy and to put this bird in his place. So how can you do it? Here are a few ways you can knock him off his perch.

First off, even though you can fight him in the Bond of the Blade side mission, it appears as though you have to do this in the Eternal Rivals mission. The trophy does specify that you have to knock him off “his perch on the bridge in ‘Eternal Rivals'” so that rules out the side mission, even though that doesn’t make much sense since he perches in that stage as well.

Regardless, the easier way would be to use a hand cannon (these are the heaviest of the three ammo-based ranged weapon types) to shoot him off the perch. He doesn’t perch immediately but in the second phase of the fight when he goes in the Dark Realm, as you can see in the above picture. Anticipate this and draw your cannon early since it takes a bit to get out and Yoshitsune is very fast.

Aim at him and fire as shoot as he lands on his perch. You might get hit by an attack or two and die trying to get this trophy so don’t waste too many of your resources trying to get to this point if you’re rather low on Elixirs. He has a few attacks from his perch including a fast diving move, one where he sends his bird spirit after you, a ranged attack where he shoots a few swords at you at a time, and another where he summons sharp objects to rain down from above. They’re all pretty fast so it might be wiser just to sacrifice yourself to get this trophy and not try to kill him and get it.

There are likely other ways to get it as there are many ranged attacks in the game, but the hand cannon is the simplest. Arrows and the rifle do not seem to work.
