Blizzard Aiming To Release World of Warcraft Expansions On A Yearly Basis

World of Warcraft's subscription numbers have been slowly dropping over the past couple of years, a trend that Blizzard hopes to remedy with a more frequent expansion release schedule.

In an interview with Digital Spy, lead systems designer Greg Street discussed the company's strategy going forward, revealing their plan to release a new expansion on an annual basis.

We find that expansions are what bring players back to World of Warcraft. Really good patches will keep them, but they aren't as good at bringing players back to the game.

We really want to get to a cadence where we can release expansions more quickly. Once a year I think would be a good rate. I think the best thing we can do for new players is to keep coming out with regular content updates.

During BlizzCon, the company announced its latest expansion, Warlords of Draenor, which promises to bring all sorts of new and exciting changes to the massive world that Blizzard has created. You can read all about it right here.
