The developers behind Starbound have revealed that their indie game, available only as an Early Access unfinished game, has already sold through to one million users.
Starbound has, no doubt, been aided by Steam's annual Holiday Sale 2013 where it stuck to the top of the sales charts despite never getting a discount itself. Remember, Early Access games typically don't go on sale and as more and more users realized this Starbound continued to dominate the charts.
Starbound, in development at Chucklefish Games, represents another massive success in alternative monetization, publishing, and development where gamers donating to the project also got to contribute assets and more depending on their level of contribution.
