Austin Wintory Will Score All Three Chapters of The Banner Saga; on Award-Winning Journey Score “It’s All About the Music”

Composer Austin Wintory recently spoke with CraveOnline about his work on Stoic's The Banner Saga, one of the first high-profile Kickstarter projects to successfully launch. That series has three chapters in total and Wintory confirmed that he'll be back for the next two games.

Speaking about the project, Wintory said that he quickly fell in love with The Banner Saga when the team approached him during their Kickstarter campaign. "I was astounded by what I saw," Wintory explained. "Unsurprisingly their campaign was an enormous success, so we set off to work immediately."

Of The Banner Saga's unique art style, Wintory explained that it was "so evocative" and that the game's style was "the number one thing" to draw him to the team at Stoic. When asked about the effect his award-winning work on Journey had on the score for The Banner Saga, Wintory explained that every project has had some influence on the work he does.

Every project builds on every other. It's hard to pinpoint any one particular lesson but I can't imagine doing The Banner Saga without having first done Journey.

When asked about how his status as a game composer has changed his work experience with The Banner Saga and other projects, Wintory remained humble.

I am never one to parade around past achievements. Sometimes those things help in certain ways but it's not something I ever think to bring to the table. It's all about the music. Creative freedom, like everything else and including your paycheck, must be earned.
