Turtle Beach VelocityOne Race KD3 System & F-RX Wheel Rim Review

Once upon a time, Turtle Beach was best known for its gaming headsets, with the Earforce X11 being my go-to for Call of Duty 4 on Xbox 360. Since then, the company has widened its focus to include entirely new genres, including racing games.

In late 2025, racing game newcomers and enthusiasts have two new products to get excited about: the VelocityOne Race KD3 System, a compact, affordable direct-drive setup for PC and Xbox, and the VelocityOne F-RX Wheel Rim, which provides a formula-level upgrade for those looking to crank the experience up a notch. After spending time testing the KD3 bundle followed by the F-RX Wheel Rim upgrade, it’s time for my review

Turtle Beach VelocityOne Race KD3 System Review

Let’s start with the VelocityOne Race KD3, as it’s the foundation. The beating heart of the system is the K: Drive motor, which boasts 3.2 Nm of direct-drive force feedback for that heightened immersion.

It’s nice to see that level of force feedback offered at this more entry-level price. Newcomers may take some getting used to the experience, as it can be a little jarring when battling through the pack during intense races, but the leap from a standard gaming controller to a system like this is well worth the jump.

Though relatively entry-level, Turtle Beach has still maintained high quality with its choice of materials. The amount of metal is reassuring and gives a more professional finish. Across the entire system, the various buttons, paddles, and pedals are reassuringly smooth and responsive.

Speaking of pedals, the two-pedal setup included in the box exceeded my expectations. They are aluminium and use Hall-effect tech for enhanced precision that can be fine-tuned. As a starting point, or for those who aren’t interested in using a clutch, these pedals are fantastic. I think they should stand the test of time and are a real highlight.

The included wheel is also good. The magnetic shifters feel satisfying to click and work flawlessly in-game. I’m also impressed by the Race Management Display, which is very well-designed and allows users to tweak pedal sensitivity, force-feedback strength, and other tunables with relative ease.

In games, the KD3 comes surprisingly close to more expensive solutions. Turtle Beach has managed to take more premium features and trickle them down into this more entry-level product. Sure, force-feedback ultimately has a limit that racing veterans will likely want to exceed, and the two-pedal setup is unlikely to satisfy forever, but this is truly an impressive all-in-one system that is more than capable of getting newcomers hooked.

Turtle Beach VelocityOne F-RX Wheel Rim Review

Those looking to take the already impressive KD3 system to the next level are naturally going to consider the VelocityOne F-RX Formula Rim.

The upgrade is immediately noticeable. Visually, it’s more formula-focused and stands out in the best way. Materials-wise, the use of aluminium for the frame and the rubber grips puts it closer to the real thing, further enhancing immersion.

Diving into the gameplay-impacting features and things immediately get interesting — and potentially overwhelming — with the 10 buttons and five dials. These are super customizable, as you would expect, and are easily within reach of your thumbs, without the need to take your hands off the wheel.

The shifters and paddles add to the satisfaction, with a reassuring crispness that is another step up. They feel consistent and precise, which is exactly what you want during intense races where split-second decisions are being made.

While it’s nice that the KD3 has a display, the F-RX blows it out of the water with its LED display’s quality. It looks superb and really adds to the overall aesthetic.

For newcomers, the F-RX isn’t a mandatory upgrade, as the base wheel can already do so much. However, for those who can make use of all of the buttons and dials, or who desire the high-quality materials or more formula-esque style, then the F-RX gives the setup one hell of a boost.

The only downside that I found with the F-RX is the potentially limited compatibility with other systems. It’s clear that Turtle Beach wants players locked within their product range, which is obviously not advantageous to customers who want freedom of choice and to potentially mix and match wherever possible.

Final Verdict

At $449.99 for the VelocityOne Race KD3 System and $249.99 for the F-RX Wheel Rim, Turtle Beach delivers impressive quality and performance for the price. The KD3’s solid build, aluminium pedals, and intuitive Race Management Display make it a standout entry-level option, while the F-RX enhances the setup with premium materials, a sharp LED display, and expanded controls. Though the closed ecosystem limits flexibility, the overall value and craftsmanship make this one of the most complete and accessible racing setups available.
