The Boulies Master Gaming Chair is the product of a company known for successfully blending ergonomic design with premium style. With subtle styling that doesn’t lean too heavily into the gamer-y aesthetic, the Master becomes accessible to those with gaming setups, yes, but also those in work-from-home offices or for mature gamers who want comfort without the RGB craziness. After using the Master for a few weeks during both work and play at my desk, it’s time for my review.
Get comfortable
I’ve used a lot of gaming/ergonomic chairs, and Boulies’ formula of “high-density cold-cured foam” is definitely up there in terms of comfort while still being supportive. It’s firm yet cushioned, like my ideal mattress, and the overall seat cushion and back are well-shaped with no sudden sharp angles.
For me, the most crucial part of any “ergonomic” chair is a decent lumbar support. Happily, Boulies has implemented a built-in adjustable support which can be moved up and down to match the user’s specific demands. This goes the extra mile compared to the cushions you see on less premium chairs and the impact is noticeable, especially after long work days.
The “4D armrests” are another highlight, as they allow for a wide variety of movement in multiple directions. It’s easy to adjust them ready for work, before moving them out of the way when it’s time to lean back and game.
Lean back and relax

Speaking of leaning back, the Boulies Master supports a recline from 90 to 135 degrees. Additionally, a rocking mode lets users control the lean with their body weight and then decide on the exact point where they lock it into place.
When it comes to the choice of materials, Boulies offers three. The first is the Ultraflex PU leather, which is for those who like that leather-like material. The second is a Water Repellent Fabric — my preference — which feels cooler and resists any accidental spills. The third material is Nappa Leather, which I’ve yet to test, but I imagine it’s very luxurious (and comes with the price to match).
Build once, then you can chill

While the overall build quality and finish of the chair is superb, putting it together can be a bit of a faff. I’d highly recommend setting aside more time than you’d expect for the build process and, ideally, trying to rope someone in to help you. While the Master won’t be as big or as heavy as the Master Max, it can still be a bit of a challenge.
That really is the only negative point I can make against this chair. It has a timeless look that works in every environment and, once built, only offers relaxation while looking after the user’s body in an ergonomically-sound way.
