The Homture Magic Frame looks to push the envelope when it comes to digital photo frames by using AI. On paper, it certainly sounds interesting. In addition to providing the usual slideshow of a user’s images, it can also use AI to animate photographs, turning a still image into a short clip. If you’re open to AI use, there could be a lot to like here. But how does it fare in the real world? Here is my review.
The specs
Before I discuss the AI features, I’ll briefly run through the Homture Magic Frame’s specs. It’s a 10.1” touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1200. It has 64 GB of physical storage, but provides unlimited cloud storage, which is pretty impressive (so long as it remains in place). It uses a dual-band WiFi connection which has remained fast and free of interruptions throughout my testing.
All in all, from a digital photo frame perspective, it’s a solid piece of tech, rising above smaller units out there and with a resolution that helps deliver crisp images. The screen gets bright, too, which is great for when the daylight is really shining into a room.
What about AI?

Moving on to the main attraction then and the reason you might be looking at the Homture Magic Frame over any other digital photo frame out there: the AI features.
Using AI credits – more on this in a second – users can animate images or restore old low-quality photos. The animation can work very well, turning a smiling lady into a moving laughing lady. Restoring old photos is good, too, adding clarity to decades-old images that can be wildly fuzzy by today’s standards.
I can see a lot of people finding joy in the AI features. Though they do fabricate moments that never truly happened and can only do so much to rescue old photos, I think there is something valuable here.
A personal highlight was uploading a photo of my dog. The AI animated her well and it was really lifelike. Again, I know it’s not a real moment, but that doesn’t automatically make it negative, at least not in my eyes.
The main downside

The obvious downside to owning the Homture Magic Frame is the AI credits that you’ll need to buy to continue using AI features. While Homture does include some in the box, users will ultimately need to fork out the equivalent of $1 per AI-generated image or clip. If you’re thinking of buying the Magic Frame to make extensive use of that feature, you will want to consider how much you might end up spending on credits.
