Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K review

Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K Wireless Keyboard Review

The Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K is the biggest board in the company’s new Ultra lineup, bringing the same feature set to a full-size layout. For those who want a numpad and all the extra keys that come with a larger board, that alone makes it appealing. But with its bigger footprint and premium price, does it justify the space it takes up? After putting it through the usual mix of typing and gaming, here’s my review.

Big board, big feature set

The Q6 Ultra 8K makes a strong first impression. Its all-metal frame gives it that hefty, high-end feel that helps justify the cost, and it certainly doesn’t come across as a lightweight effort.

Like the rest of the Ultra range, it combines Keychron’s Silk POM switches with screw-in stabilizers, a double-gasket structure, and multiple acoustic layers. Together, these help deliver a smooth typing feel and a pleasingly refined sound profile. Hot-swappable support is also appreciated, giving users the option to swap switches down the line.

As with the rest of the range, my advice on switches doesn’t really change. The Red switches make the most sense for competitive play, while Banana feels better suited to those dividing their time between work and gaming. Brown sits somewhere in the middle.

Plenty of flexibility

Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K review

One of the Q6 Ultra 8K’s biggest strengths is how many ways there are to use it. It supports wired, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.3, making it easy to tailor to different setups and use cases. Better still, the 8,000 Hz polling rate works in both wired and 2.4 GHz modes, which is great news for those chasing top-tier responsiveness.

Bluetooth mode will be the better fit for general productivity and longer battery life, and that balance between gaming performance and everyday usability is something the Ultra lineup does very well.

Of course, the main appeal of the Q6 specifically is the full-size layout. If you use a numpad regularly, or simply want every key in its expected place, this design has clear benefits. The trade-off, naturally, is the amount of desk space it demands.

The same nitpick

Keychron Q6 Ultra 8K review

The main drawback, once again, is the stock Silk POM switch feel. They are smooth and more than capable, but there’s a slight softness to them that I’m not especially fond of.

Because these aren’t magnetic switches, there isn’t that extra gaming-focused edge to make the feel easier to overlook. For some users, that may make the stock setup feel a little less exciting than expected.

Final Verdict

At $239.99, for full-size fans, Keychron has put together a feature-packed board that gets a lot right. Build quality is excellent, connectivity is broad, and the overall experience feels appropriately premium. The switch feel may leave some users wanting more, but the rest of the package is well judged.
