Artemis II crew used the Apple iPhone 17 Pro to snap incredible space photos during their mission. NASA shared three stunning photos taken by astronauts on the iPhone 17 Pro Max during the Artemis II mission to the Moon. Interestingly, in February, a couple of months before the mission, the space agency had revealed that the iPhone 17 was fully qualified for extended use in space. According to reports, all four astronauts used the device to take personal photos and videos.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro joins Artemis II as crew member
Artemis II crew members use Apple’s latest iPhone 17 Pro Max for stunning space shots. NASA shared a spectacular snap of Artemis II’s Commander Reid Wiseman looking solemnly at Earth through one of the Orion spacecraft’s main cabin windows. As per Flickr data, the photo was taken on April 2, the second day of the mission. It was shot on the front camera of iPhone 17 Pro Max with 2.715mm f/1.9. Wiseman uploaded the breathtaking picture on Instagram with the caption, “There are no words.”
NASA shared another gorgeous photo of mission specialist Christina Koch looking back at Earth through one of the Orion spacecraft’s main cabin windows. In the photo, we can see Koch’s loose hair strands and schoolgirl-like braids as she looks back at Earth.
NASA shared the photo with the caption, “First braids to leave Earth orbit. (unconfirmed).” Furthermore, cameras such as the Nikon D5, Nikon Z9, and GoPro HERO4 Black were used to capture other remarkable photos (via MacRumors).
Fans left favourable comments on Wiseman and Koch’s breathtaking space photographs, shot on iPhone 17 Pro Max. One user commented under Wiseman’s photo, “Best thing one could ever witness.” A second user chimed in, “Yes… no words needed, beautiful home,” followed by an Earth emoji. A third user remarked, “This is some crazy aura farming.”
A fourth user penned, “Posting to IG from space is such a cool flex. Godspeed on your mission.” One wrote, “This will go down as a classic photo for all time.” Finally, another expressed, “Oh, this is spectacular.”
Notably, Artemis II marks the first time in over 50 years that astronauts have traveled beyond low Earth orbit. However, the spacecraft Orion CM-003 Integrity is not equipped to land on the Moon yet. Hence, the astronauts will return to Earth on April 10.
