At launch, the iPhone 15 Pro was a premium phone with a premium price. In 2026, refurbished models can be found for less than $500, transforming it into one of the most compelling budget-friendly upgrades for anyone still holding onto an older iPhone. Here is my review after upgrading from my ageing iPhone 13 Mini.
A compact-enough upgrade
Coming from an iPhone 13 mini, the size increase is noticeable. I still consider that 5.4-inch form factor close to perfect, but the iPhone 15 Pro is the next-best option. It remains comfortable, light, and well-balanced, unlike the oversized Pro Max models, while later Pro phones move further in the wrong direction.
The Natural Titanium finish also deserves praise. It looks distinctive without being flashy, and Apple’s subsequent move away from titanium makes the 15 Pro and 16 Pro colors feel even more special.
Small upgrades add up
Moving from an older iPhone reveals just how many improvements are packed in. USB-C is convenient, the telephoto camera is genuinely useful, and the Dynamic Island is more charming than expected. The 120Hz ProMotion display, thinner bezels, and always-on functionality make the entire phone feel more modern.
Performance remains flawless, especially compared with my iPhone 13 mini, which had started to struggle under iOS 26. Battery life is also a major upgrade, making it far easier to get through a full day without constantly checking the percentage.
Room for improvement
Charging is the obvious weak point. Android rivals can refill their batteries incredibly quickly, while the iPhone 15 Pro still feels sluggish by comparison.
I also never gelled with the Action button. I kept accidentally launching the camera, so I eventually disabled the shortcut entirely.
There is a future-proofing caveat, too. The phone supports Siri AI, but its 8GB of RAM excludes it from Apple’s most advanced 12GB-only on-device model.
Final Verdict
For less than $500 refurbished, the iPhone 15 Pro is an excellent 2026 upgrade. It combines near-flagship performance, a manageable size, strong cameras, and premium materials without demanding current-generation money. Its slow charging and reduced access to the newest AI features sting, but the overall package remains exceptionally difficult to beat.
