Nvidia Quietly Launches New GPU With 12 GB VRAM

With a growing need for memory with the rise of AI, Nvidia has launched a higher-capacity RTX 5070 part for laptops. Per reports, this new 12GB RTX 5070 mobile GPU boasts a 50 percent increase over the existing RTX 5070 model, which offers 8GB of memory.

The new GPU is exclusively for gamers and creators, who often utilize AI-based functions. The 12GB version will coexist with the current 8GB version, giving users the choice between the two for their specific needs.

Nvidia has reportedly launched a new 12GB RTX 5070 mobile GPU, boasting 50% more memory capacity compared to the existing 8GB version (via Tom’s Hardware). The new and improved GPU will continue to be available alongside the current GPU model of the same lineup, which boasts 8GB of memory. This will give users the choice to pick one based on their specific needs.

The new model will use 3GB modules, which means memory bandwidth should remain close to the RTX 5070 8GB counterpart. Moreover, the new GPU is aimed primarily at gamers and creators who need that bit of extra memory. It is also placed above the 8GB RTX 5070 but below the RTX 5070 Ti, which also boasts 12 GB of memory.

Tom’s Hardware states that the new “RTX 5070 8GB laptop GPU comes with 4608 CUDA cores and 8GB of GDDR7 operating on a 128-bit interface, providing 384 GB/s of bandwidth,” as compared to RTX 5070 Ti 12GB laptop GPU, which comes with “5888 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR7 memory operating on a 192-bit interface, providing 672 GB/s of memory bandwidth.”

This new GPU is a rare moment in Nvidia’s history, as the company usually does not release higher memory versions of existing models. This move perhaps comes as the demand for more memory increases across different fields, especially with Artificial Intelligence becoming a major function.
