How to Get Bright Engrams in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is rife with several types of items that you’ll find strewn without the worlds. Without a doubt the most common are engrams, which are small, hexagon-shaped drops that you can find pretty much everywhere. Engrams themselves come in several different varieties too, so you might discover a lot of differently-colored items and wonder what, exactly, they’re actually for.

You can use engrams to snag lots of different loot of varying rarities, ranging from Common (White) all the way to Exotic (Yellow). There’s another type of Engram, however, that you’ll want to keep an eye out for. Bright engrams are special types that you can get from two different methods. Once unlocked, you can use them to unlock items like Sparrows or Exotic Ornaments. So if you’re into getting all the loot you possibly can, you’ll definitely want to be on the hunt for Bright engrams. Here’s how you can rack ’em up.

How to Get Bright Engrams by Earning Them

If you’re looking to get a ton of Bright engrams, first know that you’ve got a lot of playing to do before you. It involves playing through the campaign and further than that. You’ll need to level up all the way to level 20, which happens a lot quicker than you’d think. If you’re having issues completing this, make sure you check out our guide on how to level up fast.

Once you’ve leveled all the way to 20, you’ll still be able to earn experience. There will be a special gauge on the bottom of your screen that will continually fill up. Each time it fills up, you’ll get one of the coveted Bright engrams. You’ll still need to take it to decrypt so you can see what item you received, but this method will obviously take you a while to earn even just one engram.

Previously, you would be rewarded with Motes of Light after you had reached level 20, but now you’ll get Bright engrams. Make sure you completed more difficult activities in order to rack up the experience, or this will be a very slow-going process. It will already take a little more time than you may want to spend, but this is the easiest way to unlock Bright engrams in-game and continue to do so indefinitely. If you want to get a Sparrow, this is currently the only way you’ll be able to grind for one, and you’re definitely going to want to get a Sparrow.

How to Get Bright Engrams by Purchasing Them

If you don’t want to grind forever, you can pony up some real-world cash to actually purchase Bright engrams from a vendor in The Farm. The Farm is Destiny 2’s social hub where you can spend time with other players, and you can purchase Bright engrams at the Eververse stand there. You can buy Bright engrams one at a time or you can buy in bundles of three and five any time you’re ready.

You won’t be able to purchase the in-game currency Silver, however, until you reach level 20. So if you’re already going to be leveling up to 20 already, you might want to save your money and just start earning engrams instead.
