Epic Games is releasing Fortnite Battle Royale for free on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, allowing those who don’t necessarily own the base game to pick it up and try out the new mode. While that’s all good news, it seems that some are struggling to even find the game on PC, so let’s get this settled so we can all get back to shooting one another.
Download Fortnite Battle Royale on PC
First, you’re going to need to head on over to EpicGames.com. Still can’t find the prompt to download Fortnite Battle Royale? Well, that’s because the questionable UI of Epic’s site makes it extraordinarily difficult to find. After clicking onto the site, click on the white Epic logo in the top left-hand corner. Scroll down to “Get Epic Games” and download the launcher.

Now that you have the launcher, you’ll be pleased to hear that getting your hands on Fortnite Battle Royale is as simple as clicking on the big “Download” button. With the game not available on Steam, this is the only way you’ll be able to play it from here on out.
Next you’re going to want to select the ‘Battle Royale’ mode from the list (the ‘Save the World’ PvE experience is only available to those who have bought the game, though will be made available for free in 2018) and hop right in to your first game.
It’s a little ridiculous that this all needs explaining, but considering how reliant we PC gamers are on Steam, when a game doesn’t release on Valve’s platform a moment of blind panic inevitably follows after being forced to use another service. Still, Epic Games’ platform is serviceable enough, and Fortnite Battle Royale is actually a lot of fun. Enjoy!
