Fortnite Replay Crash: Why Does Renaming Clips Crash the Game?

Following the 3.5 update, players are experiencing a Fortnite replay crash issue, which prevents users from renaming new replay clip files. The Fortnite Replay system has just launched, giving players the power to record their rounds and watch them back. Unfortunately, it isn’t without its problems, as many users are running into a Fortnite replay crash issue that occurs frequently when attempting to rename replay clips. Here’s what we know and what you can do to avoid the crashing error.

Fortnite Replay Crash: What Is the Error?

The Fortnite replay crash issue is an error that causes the game to crash when players attempt to rename clips captured using the new Replay system. This feature, which has only just been introduced through the new 3.5 update, is working fine when it comes to actually capturing footage, but once a player attempts to rename that video file, a crash is likely to occur.

Twitter user @FortniteBR has posted a public service announcement, which states that many players “are experiencing a high-frequency crash when renaming replays.”

Fortnite Replay Crash: How to Avoid the Crashing Issue

Fortnite Replay Crash

The easiest way to avoid the Fortnite replay crash issue, as obvious as it sounds, is to simply stop renaming files. Sure, if you’re a prolific clip capturer, things might get a little messy and awesome clips could get lost in a sea of videos, but until Epic Games acknowledges and fixes the crashing issue, I think a bit of clutter is worth avoiding the crashes.

Epic Games has yet to make a comment on the Fortnite replay crash issue. Judging by their recent tweets, the developers appear to be focused on issues with PC keybinds and animation issues with the guided missile.

On a more positive note, Epic Games has been quick to roll out fixes in other areas, and so once the team is aware of the Fortnite replay crash error, I’m confident that a solution will be released sooner rather than later.
