_____________

A. - Gameplay

_____________

The main objective of Geometry Wars is to survive an onslaught of as many

enemies as you can handle. You are given a set amount of lives and bombs

each time you play. At any time, your bombs can be used to clear the screen

of enemies. For the first 3 seconds into a life, your craft is protected

by a shield. After that, if anything touches your craft, you lose a life.

Once you run out of lives, the battle/game ends.

For more info, go to the respective section of each game.

__________

D. - Geoms

__________

In Galaxies, nearly every enemy destroyed leaves behind small yellow items

called Geoms. These are the currency used in the game, so obviously you

want to pick these up.

There are four types of Geoms:

Type - Geoms

Triangle - 10

Diamond - 20

Cross (Small) - 50

Cross (Large) - 100

For each Geom you collect, the following will occur:

- Your Geom total for the current battle will in crease by the above amount

- Your score multiplier will increase by one (until it maxes out at x150)

- At 5,000 Geoms, an extra life is earned

- At 7,500 Geoms, an extra bomb is earned

- Your main attack changes after a certain amount of Geoms are found.

______________

E. - The Drone

______________

New to Galaxies, the drone is an AI-controlled craft that helps you in

the game. Before starting a planet, the drone can be fitted with a

behavior. At the end of a battle, the drone will gain XP, experience

points, for the behavior it used. For every 100 XP gained, the behavior

will level up and become more powerful. The behaviors start at level 1

(with 10 XP already given) and max out at level 10.

Some behaviors (like Attack and Defend) are active for the entire battle,

while others (like Turret and Bait) take time to activate. For these,

the drone will flash red just before turning its ability on or off.

There are 8 behaviors, 7 of which must be bought with Geoms

(Amount needed to buy behavior indicated in parenthesis):

- Type (Price) - Description

- Attack (Free) - The drone follows your ship and shoots in the same

direction as you do.

- On Level Up: firepower, accuracy, and

spread of fire increase.

- Defense (3,500) - The drone stays behind the ship and shoots behind you.

At first it will ONLY shoot backward...

- On Level Up: ...but the arc it covers, as well as the

firepower, will increase.

- Collect (14,500) - The drone does NOT shoot, but instead wanders around

the grid and picks up stray Geoms.

- On Level Up: Faster movement and turning.

- Snipe (28,000) - The drone uses a beam to pick off targets, usually

killing multi-hit enemies in one shot.

- On Level Up: Improved targeting system.

- Sweep (57,000) - The drone does NOT shoot, but instead circles around

the ship to kill any nearby enemies.

- On Level Up: smaller orbit radius, increased speed.

- Ram (90,000) - Basically acts just like Sweep, but instead of

circling the ship, the drone wanders the grid and

runs into nearby enemies, killing them instantly.

- On Level Up: the drone will go farther away from

the ship and become prone to attacking tougher enemies.

- Turret (150,000) - The drone will shoot from a fixed position, aiming

in a circle around itself to a fixed distance away

(though the shots still travel completely across the

grid). When not in use, it copies the Attack behavior.

- On Level Up: Increased target distance, firepower,

duration and length.

- Bait (300,000) - The drone moves away from the ship and attracts enemies,

making it easier to escape from enemies.

- On Level Up: Increased frequency and length.

B. - The Enemies

________________

For most enemies, the name says it all.

_______________

Classic Enemies

_______________

__

| /|

_|/_|

| /|

|/ |_

- Wanderer: These aren't a threat unless there's a bunch of them.

--------------

/

/

- Grunt: Same as the Wanderer.

--------------

____

| / |

|/ |

| /|

|_/_|

- Weaver: These guys move fast enough to not only to close in on you

quickly, but also to evade your bullets! The best strategy

for these is to back them into a corner.

--------------

____

| /| __

| / | |/|

| / | |/|

|/__| --

- Spinners/Tiny Spinners: Like the Weavers, Spinners move fast, but

they don't evade. Instead, they split into two Tiny Splitters when hit.

--------------

O (Imagine as big as above pictures)

- Gravity Well: These guys move slow, but they take multiple hits

to defeat. When hit, they'll suck up anything nearby while

repelling your bullets. If too many enemies are sucked up...

--------------

o (Actual size)

- Proton: ...These guys will show up. Protons come in large packs,

and they move FAST. Shoot them down quick or use a bomb before

they hit you.

--------------

|>|>|>|>|>|>|>|>|>O

- Snake: They're long, they move in a zigzag, and only the head

can be hit to kill it. They always appear in packs.

--------------

___

/ __|> |

|X|__ ||

___|> |

- Repulsor: These ships turn in place to find you, then they try to

ram you at high speed, using a shield to block your shots. Hit them

from the side or behind to kill them.

--------------

_

V

- Mayfly: These guys suck. Seriously. They appear in packs (HUGE packs

in Retro Evolved), they move REALLY fast, and they're small. Drone small.

___________________________

New Enemies (Galaxies only)

___________________________

|/

|_X__ (Imagine Biohazard symbol

L/_/_ without outer circle here)

/_/ |

- Mutator / Mutated: Trust me, you'll know them when you see them.

Anyway, The Mutator (the blue ones) will attack OTHER enemies and

change them into Mutateds (The red ones). Both move quite fast

compared to other enemies.

Mutators will NOT hurt you if you touch them, and they take

multiple hits to defeat.

--------------

(O) (See Gravity Well)

- UFO / NUFO: These guys simply fly around. That's it. There are two

types: NUFOs and UFOs. The NUFOs are yellow and travel in groups.

They usually come in from outside the grid. If you see these,

SHOOT THEM IMMEDIATELY! They're not a threat, but they give massive

amounts of points. The red UFOs are very rare and are worth even more

points.

--------------

(Imagine a circle inside a second circle here)

- Generator: This (obviously) generates enemies to add into the grid.

As far as I know the enemy can be any class type except Gravity Well,

Proton, Snake, or Repulsor. It can only be destroyed when it turns blue.

--------------

O O

O (Imagine circles joined together)

O

- Neutron: Basically large Protons. Not much else to say.

--------------

__

_

/_/

- Dart: Basically the Galaxies counterpart to the Grunt/Weaver.

________________________

Planet-Exclusive Enemies

________________________

These enemies appear only on their respective planets and the Var- planets.

(Imagine a Generator inside of a third circle here)

- Black Hole: Basically an indestructible, more powerful gravity well

(only it doesn't explode and make Protons). These appear on the

Orb- planets.

--------------

- Asteroids: Take an enemy, make it bigger, and turn it orange, and

you get these guys. They split into two smaller asteroids when

defeated, and the smaller asteroids produce multiple copies of the

enemy they are shaped as. These appear on the Mas- planets.

To be precise, they can be in the form of the following:

-Wanderer

-Grunt

-Weaver

-Spinner

-Repulsor

-Neutron

--------------

^

_/

- Cell Mass: Think of these yellow guys as a virus. In fact they

appear on the Vir- planets. They group together in large packs and

multiply quickly.

--------------

O (See Gravity Well)

- Wormhole: A pair of orbs that, when entered, teleports you ship and

enemies from one to the other. You gain a temporary shield upon

exiting the Wormhole, and you must wait for it to disappear

before re-entering the Wormhole. They appear on the Por- planets

--------------

_

|_|

- Meteor: Basically square NUFOs, but worth less points. They appear

on the Roc- planets.

--------------

_/_

|/ |

/| o |

| |/

| /|

----

V

- Mine Layer: These indestructible enemies (obviously) place mines

on the grid. These mines are activated when touched by your craft

and can be used to destroy enemies from far away. Also, as each

enemy is killed by a mine, the score jumps dramatically. Mine

Layers appear on the Min- planets.

--------------

_________

| | | |

|__|__|__|

| |

|__|

- Flipper: Appearing on the Fli- planets, these indestructible cubes

roll along the grid to block your shots.

C. - Score Table

________________

High scores are important for this game, since medals earn you bonus Geoms

(More on that later). Here are the point values for each enemy with x1

and x150 multipliers.

Note that Black Holes, Mine Layers, Flippers, and Wormholes cannot

be destroyed.

Enemy Points (x1) Points (x150)

Wanderer 25 3,750

Grunt 50 7,500

Weaver 100 15,000

Spinner 100 15,000

Tiny Spinner 50 7,500

Gravity Well 150* 22,500*

Proton 50 7,500

Snake 150 22,500

Repulsor 150 22,500

Mayfly 25 3,750

Mutator 150 22,500

Mutated 200 30,000

UFO 5,000 750,000(!)

Generator 150 22,500

Asteroids 100 15,000

Cell Mass 25 3,750

Neutron 100 15,000

NUFO 500 75,000

Meteor 100 15,000

Dart 100 15,000

*The score for any enemies sucked up by the Gravity Well are added to

the Well's score when defeated.

_____________________________________________________________________________

3 - Galaxies

_____________________________________________________________________________

The main objective of Galaxies is to survive an onslaught of as many enemies

as you can handle. The number of lives and bombs you start with is

determined by the current planet. An extra life is gained for every 3,000

Geoms, and an extra bomb is given at 5,000 Geoms.

Galaxies consists of 64 planets spread across 10 galaxies (74 planets on 11

galaxies if you include multiplayer). Each planet has high score

requirements to reach bronze, silver, and gold medals. These medals,

when first awarded, give an additional amount of Geoms.

Each galaxy (Except for Alpha) must be bought with Geoms to reach its

planets, and each planet (with the exception of the first one or two,

and the Alpha planets) must also be bought in order to be played on.

_________________________________________________

A. The Planets (And Maybe... How They Were Named)

_________________________________________________

In Galaxies, there are 13 types of planets that can be found in the game.

Their names are displayed as (Planet Type)(Number).

____________

Planet Types

____________

Bear in mind that the parenthesis are just my thought on what they stand for.

- Trainer / Cla(ssic): These planets act just like Retro Evolved; no tricks,

just kill the enemies.

- Mas(sive): These planets use primarily Asteroids, but are otherwise

just like Cla(ssic)

- Sur(vival): You only get one life here, so don't blow it.

- Orb(it?): These have a Black Hole in the center, and the enemies travel

in a spiral.

- Roc(k): Meteors are the main enemies here.

- Min(e): Mine Layers are always seen here, along with unusually high medal

scores...

- Fli(pper): As the name suggests, Flippers dwell on these planets.

- Los(?): These are generally small planets with small corridors.

- Bat(?): This could mean anything for the name, but I prefer bat-**** crazy.

These planets have enemies come in large packs (usually on one side of

the screen), and they move much faster than usual.

- Var(iety): The miscellaneous planets; they can have any layout and enemies

(even ones that only appear on other planets).

The following 3 planet types are NOT in multi player Galaxies:

- Vir(us): These planets have the Cell Mass enemy on them.

- Zoo: These planets are almost like a maze; small corridors are usually

found here.

- Por(tal): A pair of wormholes appear on this type of planet.

_____________

Number System

_____________

Each planet ends with a set of letters that the determines what number planet

it is.

The number system is as follows:

Ending = number

-eis = 1

-duo = 2

-tris = 3

-tetra = 4

-pente = 5

-hex = 6

-hepta = 7

-ama = N/A (Only used for multiplayer)

In other words, "Clatetra" would mean Cla(ssic) #4.

______________________

B. - Medal Score Table

______________________

Now for the main part... the score table. This shows what score you need

to get bronze, silver, and gold medals on each planet.

4 - Retro Evolved

_____________________________________________________________________________

An exact port of the original Xbox 360 game, your job is to destroy as many

enemies as you can before running out of lives. You start out with 3 lives

and 3 bombs. An extra life is given for every 75,000 points, and an extra

bomb is given every 100,000 points.

The score multiplier is increased after ever so many enemies are destroyed

(I don't know the exact details yet).

Only the classic enemies appear in Retro Evolved.

Sadly (sort of), only Evolved mode appears here, no Retro version...

Questions? Comments? Know someting I don't about the game? Let me know!

(This is my first FAQ, after all.) I could always use help in adding

information.

Send an email to [email protected] if you have anything to say.

Make sure to put "Geometry Wars" or "Galaxies" or something like that in

the subject so I know what you're talking about.

Especially email me if you know the following:

- Any medal scores I'm missing

- ANYTHING about the Lambda galaxy - since I don't have the DS version, I

can't see this part yet!

- Any other ideas on the galaxy names (the parenthesis, I mean)

- ANYTHING on the DS version - I'm planning to make a guide for it as well

- Any possible mistakes I've made in the guide.

Remember, don't be a freeloader... contribute!
