Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice 1.03 Update: What’s Changed in the PS4 Version?

In what could very well be developer Ninja Theory’s very last official act on a Sony console, it’s released the Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice 1.03 update on PS4. Not only has it fixed the NY Gate Bug, one of the game’s biggest problems, but it also adds HDR support and polishes off a few other things before heading on over to Microsoft.

Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice 1.03 Update: What’s Changed in the PS4 Version?

Ninja Theory don’t appear to be releasing any official patch notes for this one. All we’ve got to go on is the company’s tweet announcing the 1.03 update, which promises both HDR support and a host of bug fixes, including finally getting round to patching the notorious NY Gate Bug.

How will HDR Affect Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice?

Thought Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice was a looker of a game before? You ain’t seen nothing yet. HDR support via the 1.03 update will essentially give the graphics a bit of a boost, especially on PS4 Pro.

HDR (high dynamic range) lighting will allow the brightest of bright lights as well as the dark, dingiest moments within the Darkness to become more vivid than ever before. Additionally, details in the distance should, thanks to the new and improved lighting, look crisper than ever before. Basically, a good-looking game just got even better.

Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice 1.03 Update: What is the ‘NY’ Gate Bug?

What was once a serious bug has now been eradicated, but what was it? The NY gate bug, named after the resemblance of the markers on a gate in-game to the letters ‘N’ and ‘Y’ was found on the way to Surt, and stopped Senua and players in their tracks. That’s because, for some unknown reason, the gate wouldn’t open, even if you had all the runes necessary to progress. Thank heavens for Ninja Theory: that game-breaking bug is gone.
