Fortnite Suppressed Assault Rifle Stats: Is the Suppressed Assault Rifle OP?

Is the Fortnite suppressed assault rifle OP? Another week, another new Fortnite weapon to call OP. After a slew of in-game teases the Fortnite 5.40 update brought with it the suppressed assault rifle. This familiar weapon is nothing more than the currently available assault rifle pre-equipped with a dense silencer. Said to reward precision just like any gun should, there’s already a bunch of videos on YouTube calling this particular weapon too overpowered to be in the game. But do their points make any real sense?

Fortnite Suppressed Assault Rifle Stats: Is the Suppressed Assault Rifle OP?

The Fortnite Suppressed Assault Rifle isn’t all too different from the current assault rifle. Available in both Epic and Legendary variants, the 5.40 patch notes reveal a single point DPS increase between the two – from 32 on the Epic, to 33 DPS on the legendary suppressed assault rifle. This is slightly lower than the 36 DPS offered by the classic assault rifle of the Legendary rarity, but where the standard weapon excels in damage, the other offers quieter execution at the cost of reduced range.

So, back to the original question: is the suppressed assault rifle OP? Honestly, it’s difficult to call this weapon overpowered at all. It’s an upgrade or downgrade to the current assault rifle. Its usefulness really depends on your preferred playstyle.

A silenced weapon like the Fortnite suppressed assault rifle will technically reduce the effective range of a weapon that has stood out as a fine mid-range choice for months, but the added silence should make for an easier time dispatching squads or multiple individual players in a cover-heavy environment without giving your position away with squeeze of the trigger like the shotgun or regular assault rifle would.

This isn’t a weapon you’ll want to pull out for a long-range shot. Sound doesn’t really matter when it comes to long-range shots, meaning the silencer’s reduced range and damage has no payoff. Where this gun will shine is in busier conflicts in an urban environment as a way to pick off foes without giving yourself away.
