Netflix has announced an Avatar The Last Airbender live action remake, which will be helmed by original creators of the iconic animated show, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It will be highly-anticipated by fans disappointed by the M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender in 2010. Read on below to find out when the Avatar The Last Airbender Netflix release date could be.
What is Avatar The Last Airbender Netflix?
According to creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko (via Polygon), the Avatar The Last Airbender Netflix series will be authentic to the original animated series of the same name. It will also feature a non-white cast of actors, which would be in line with the ethnicity of the characters from the world of Avatar. The new live action remake will be made in partnership with Nickelodeon, the network on which the animated series initially ran from February 2005 to July 2008.
“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast,” they said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building.”
When Is the Live Action Remake Coming Out?
At the time of writing, Avatar The Last Airbender Netflix was only just announced, and the only piece of information we have so far is that it will begin production sometime in 2019. If that’s the case, the earliest possible Avatar The Last Airbender release date for the series would have to be either late 2019 or perhaps early 2020. As of now, the cast hasn’t been revealed yet and it might still be in early production.
