Pokemon Go Ace Trainer Medal: How Do You Train in Pokemon Go?

The Pokemon Go Ace Trainer medal is an achievement many of us can’t seem to manage. A lot has changed in Pokemon Go over the last two years, and the thought of “how do you train in Pokemon Go” is still a common topic. So how do you train in Pokemon Go these days? The quick answer is that you can’t, but that isn’t to say you won’t ever be able to.

Pokemon Go Ace Trainer Medal: How Do You Train in Pokemon Go?

Pokemon Go launched back in July 2016 was far fewer systems and content than it hosts today. Raids were non-existent, coins were harder to come by, and we had less Pokemon to catch than the debut Pokemon games of the 90s. Things got better over time, but a remnant of days gone by is the Pokemon Go Ace Trainer medal.

The Pokemon Go Ace Trainer medal requires you to train 100 times for the initial bronze unlock and a bunch more times thereafter. Considering Pokemon Go Pokemon don’t earn EXP for battling the same way they do in the other games, working toward that milestone isn’t as straight-forward as it may appear for veterans of the franchise.

So how do you train in Pokemon Go then? You don’t. Not anymore, anyway. In the early days of the game when fighting in gyms is all we could do, “training” against an allied gym and its Pokemon was the only way to power up its defenders and keep it under your team’s control. It was a convoluted and dull activity, but those who worked at it would eventually earn the Pokemon Go Ace Trainer medal and gain something to show off their long commitment to the game in the years to come.

After the gym rework that saw berries become the sole way to keep Pokemon in a gym, Pokemon Go training and the Pokemon Go Ace Trainer medal became a thing of the past. The Ace Trainer medal remains in the game as a literal trophy, and unlocking it now is officially impossible.

Niantic bosses have teased new features that could see the Pokemon Go Ace Trainer medal and Pokemon Go training return in some capacity, but as of right now, the question of how do you train in Pokemon Go is one you shouldn’t bother asking.
