Red Dead Redemption 2 Old Brass Compass Bug – How to Fix

A persistent Red Dead Redemption 2 old brass compass bug seems to be preventing players from picking up a rare, much-needed talisman. The issue, which means some aren’t able to gain 100% completion in Rockstar’s title, has frustrated those who have been unable to obtain it. Is there a way to resolve the problem and add it to your collection?

Red Dead Redemption 2 Old Brass Compass Bug – What is it?

One of Red Dead 2‘s side missions sees Arthur Morgan find 10 rock carvings for a man named Francis Sinclair, who lives in a cabin to the northwest of  Strawberry. Upon completing this, players have the opportunity to pick up the old brass compass, which is one of the talismans in the game that gives Arthur certain buffs and perks.

However, some have claimed that they miss out on acquiring the item after they leave Sinclair’s house for the final time and, due to the bug, can’t re-enter the building to pick it up. One Reddit user posted in the Red Dead subreddit to state that they couldn’t return to get it, while another revealed that Rockstar had been made aware of the issue.

There’s a couple of ways to resolve this problem. The Reddit user, who explained that Rockstar was aware of the bug, claimed to have found a solution. Approach Sinclair’s cabin, and then save and exit the game. Once you’re back at the title screen, load your save file up again and you should be able to enter the cabin and pick up the compass.

The same user stated that simply refreshing the cache on your console may also sort the issue. To do this on Xbox One, press and hold the “X” button on your console until it turns off. Disconnect the power brick, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, boot up your console, and load the game. For PS4, press and hold the “PS” button on your controller. Turn your console off, let it power down for 30 seconds. Reboot the console, and then hold down the L1 and R1 buttons whilst reloading the game.

If neither of these options work, you’re likely out of luck until a patch is released at some point.
