What Is the Fallout 76 Flatwoods Monster?

Fallout 76 Flatwoods Monster

As stated above, the Flatwoods Monster in Fallout 76 is a strange creature. The humanoid creature looks as though it is an alien-like astronaut. A purple space helmet adorns its small withered head, with large purple eyes burning bright. Its thin alien body is covered in a space suit of some variety, with small boosters keeping it afloat (it has no legs). Strangest of all, however, is the that the Flatwoods Monster wears gloves.

The Flatwoods Monster is a strange one and this means that it is rather rare. Read on to learn where you can find it.

Where Is the Fallout 76 Flatwoods Monster Location?

A tricky monster, the Flatwoods Monster often teleports away if you try to attack it. It’s quite hard to pin down, but thankfully, it emits a strange noise to let you know that you are getting near. Unfortunately, however, there is no real way of ensuring that you will find the Flatwoods Monster. It’s a completely random encounter, but there are areas where you will find one if you keep returning and logging into different servers.

The known locations of the Flatwoods Monster in Fallout 76 are as follows:

  • Near and around Abbie’s Bunker in the Mire region to the northeast of Appalachia.
  • Flatwoods Monsters spawn over the river from Dyer Chemical, another part of the Mire region.
  • In the woods to the west of Wilson Brother’s Auto Repair towards the middle of Appalachia.
  • North-west of Morgantown Airport and North of Gorge Junkyard.

In these locations, players stand the chance of running into a number of variants of the Flatwoods Monster, including both hostile and non-hostile varieties.

How to Defeat the Fallout 76 Flatwoods Monster

If you happen to come across a non-hostile Flatwoods Monster, you likely won’t be able to damage it, as it will teleport away as soon as you get near or fire a shot. The hostile Flatwoods Monster, however, can be killed. It’s a tricky opponent, mind. It will teleport around you as it fights you and can even spawn together with the Mothman.

Our best advice on how to kill the Flatwoods Monster is simple enough. Keep moving and circling until it reappears (it ought to, anyway). Avoid its laser fire and open fire every time it reappears. It will be a bit of a slog, but it can be killed. Looting the corpse of the Flatwoods Monster will award you with some good loot, too, along with acting as a step towards the “Kill different types of human-like creatures” Challenge.
