Resident Evil 2 Spade Key Location and Doors

Resident Evil 2 remake Spade Key location and Spade Key doors

The Spade Key is one of the four main keys that you need in Resident Evil 2 remake to explore the RPD. The Spade Key location doesn’t change between Leon and Claire’s scenario, so this guide will work for both characters on for the first and second scenarios. Odds are, you’ll find some Spade Key doors before you actually have the means to open them, which can lead to some frustration since the game doesn’t usually clue you in on where keys are.

Below we’ll show you where to find the Spade Key location in both Leon and Claire’s scenario. We’ll also highlight which doors it unlocks. Beware, there are light spoilers for Resident Evil 2 remake below, so steer clear if you want a completely blind playthrough.

Where is the Spade Key location in Resident Evil 2 remake?

RE2 Remake Leon Spade Key Location

In the original RE2, to get the Spade Key you have to head up to the S.T.A.R.S. Office on the second floor. After that you grab the Unicorn Medal off of Chris’s desk, return to the RPD lobby and insert it into the maiden statue and the Spade Key falls out of her urn.

In Resident Evil 2 remake, though, the order of events has been changed completely. To get the Spade Key in RE2 remake in both the 1st and 2nd run you’ll need to make your way to the third floor. This location didn’t exist (at least in its current form) in the original game, so you can’t use any previous knowledge to help you find its location.

To get the Spade Key, you’ll need to play until you reach the area in the west wing of the first floor of the RPD containing the Dark Room. Next to the Dark Room is a staircase leading up to the second floor. You can’t miss it since there’s a zombie incessantly pounding on a window there.

Head up to the second floor, then take the stairs up one more level to the third floor. When you reach this corridor you’ll see a large hole in the wall to your right. Go through it and you’ll find a small office. On a desk in the office you’ll see a statue and right next to it you’ll find the Spade Key.

Where are the Spade Key door locations in Resident Evil 2 remake?

Resident Evil 2 remake Spade Key Door Locations

In Leon’s story you’ll find Spade Key doors in 3 locations:

  • The door connecting the library and the main hall on the second floor.
  • The door connecting the West Office and the main hall on the first floor.
  • The door connecting the Waiting Room and the east wing second floor corridor.

Unlocking two of these doors is actually optional. You could technically beat the game without opening the library Spade Key door, or the West Office Spade Key door. However, these shortcuts will be invaluable and prevent backtracking through dangerous locations. The Waiting Room Spade Key door must be unlocked to proceed further, though later a path will open that allows you to circumvent this door if you prefer.
