Battlefield 5 Rent a server release date | Are custom servers coming?

The confusion around a Battlefield 5 rent a server release date hasn’t gone away, despite the other issues that the game is experiencing. Players still want to know if the feature is coming to the title, but there’s been no communication from EA DICE on this front. So, when is the Battlefield 5 rent a server release date? Are custom servers coming to BF5? Find out below.

Can you rent a server in Battlefield 5?

Let’s discuss what the “rent a server” feature is first. Battlefield titles of the past have allowed players to rent servers to help build different communities when a new game in the series is released. This has allowed the likes of Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and even Bad Company 2 to stick around for a lot longer than anticipated.

However, there’s been no news on this being implemented in Battlefield 5 until now. Dan Mitre, DICE community manager, revealed on Reddit that the team was still weighing up whether to add this feature in or not.

Why is there no Battlefield 5 rent a server release date?

Explaining why an official decision had not been made yet, Mitre stated that the function needed to meet the community’s needs, have funding from EA DICE, and ensure that servers were stable enough to support it. This, coupled with Battlefield 5‘s lengthy issues list, means that a rent a server function isn’t on the immediate horizon.

It makes sense for EA DICE to be coy on this as, if they added it in and it didn’t work, it would be another negative to throw in their direction. The team needs time to determine if it’s financially viable and if it works properly, so it’s a possibility that it may never see the light of day.

Mitre did try and pacify fans by saying the rent a server feature had not been taken off the table, but don’t expect to see it any time soon.
