April 3 is turning out to be a busy day for Gearbox Software and Borderlands fans. The Borderlands 3 release date was finally revealed today but, in addition, Borderlands UHD packs are on the way for its predecessors. Unfortunately, not all of the editions will be receiving the full benefit of modern graphics with 4K HDR support will be absent for one platform.
Borderlands Game of the Year Edition UHD Pack
Borderlands Game of the Year Edition is out today, April 3 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The remaster allows players to download a Borderlands Game of the Year Edition UHD pack. However, the game will only support HDR on the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the title, with PC gamers losing out. Along with the lack of HDR support, PC users won’t have split-screen available to them either.
Thankfully, 4K is still available to PC users via the UHD Pack along with full 4K HDR support for Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro users. It’s extremely easy to access the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition UHD Pack across all platforms. The UHD Pack is available on each platform as a free separate download from Steam, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store. Once downloaded, the 4K textures will be automatically applied without the need for in-game settings adjustments.
Borderlands The Handsome Collection UHD Pack
Much of the same conditions of the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition goes for the Borderlands The Handsome Collection UHD Pack. Borderlands The Handsome Collection has been out since March 2015, however, so it is only the UHD Pack which is being released today.
Once again, PC users will be able to experience the UHD Pack in the form of updated 4K characters, vehicles, textures, cinematics, but not HDR. 4K HDR will be available to PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X players with the UHD Pack. The console-exclusive HDR portion of the UHD pack includes higher resolution dynamic shadows. This means the quality and smoothness of shadows will see significant improvement, particularly during movement on-screen.
