Is Days Gone an open world game

Is Days Gone Open World?

Days Gone is the big new PS4 exclusive from Sony and Bend Studio, the developer behind the Syphon Filter series and Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the PS Vita. You can tell from videos that it’s a big zombie action game, but what type of game is it exactly? Is Days Gone open world like Marvel’s Spider-Man, linear like The Last of Us or Uncharted, or something in-between like God of War? We’ve got the answers below.

Is Days Gone open world?

Days Gone is a survival epic in a zombie apocalypse, and is similar to fellow zombie-filled action-adventure State of Decay. Much like that game, and probably most similar to Horizon: Zero Dawn, Days Gone is most definitely an open-world game. It’s set in a decently-sized chunk of the state of Oregon, and you’ll be freely able to roam around the open-world area, provided your fuel lasts of course.

What can you do in the open world?

With a full open-world map to explore there’s a decent amount to do in Days Gone, but maybe not as much as you’d expect from other world games. You can explore wherever you wish with your trusty motorbike, to the point where you may as well consider the game to be an open-world zombies and bikes game. You’re free to go wherever you want, but you do have to consider fuel and keeping your bike well maintained. There is fast travel, but that takes fuel to do as well.

There are a number of side-missions to do alongside the main story quest line, but apart from that the main thing you’ll be doing when out in the rural state of Oregon is hunting zombies, who are called Freakers here. In the end, though, it’s more about simply checking out as much of the map as possible, riding your bike, and killing a few monsters.
