Wizard

Wizards can harness the power of ice, fire, lightning and arcane and are similar to the Sorceresses from the previous games. Spells usually take the form of large area of effect attacks or personal shielding. The resource for this character is arcane power, very similar to manna, but unlike mana it regenerates quickly. Skill types are primary, secondary, defensive, force, conjuration, and mastery. Wizards have 25 active skills and 15 passive skills at their disposal.

Monk

Monks use martial arts like the Assassinand mantras to support party members like the Paladin in Diablo 2. Monks are fast during battle and attack with spirit energy which is best restored by using various skills and combo attacks. Their skill types are primary, secondary, defensive, techniques, focus, and mantras. Monks can choose from 21 active skills and 14 passive skills.

Demon Hunter

Demon Hunters are experts at hitting enemies from afar and escaping close range encounters. Their unique weapon is the hand crossbow. They can use limited dark magic to conceal themselves and further hinder their foes. They are the only class to use two resource types. Hatred is their main resource used mainly for attack and is quick to restore on it's own. The second resource is discipline used more for defensive skills. It regenerates slower than hatred. Skill types include primary, secondary, defensive, hunting, devices, and archery. Demon Hunters are able to use 23 active skills and 15 passive skills.

Witch Doctor

Witch Doctors have access to curses, direct attack spells, and damage over time. They can equip ceremonial knives in their main hand and mojos in the offhand making for swift attacks and powerful boons to magic. Their resource is mana. Mana recovers slowly and there are very few skills that will regenerate it. Skill types are primary, secondary, defensive, terror, decay, and voodoo. Witch Doctors must choose from 22 active skills and 15 passive skills.

Barbarian

Great at close range fights and can withstand pretty hard hits. A tough fighter that can always take the extra hit for a team and the only returning class from Diablo 2, Barbarians use fury. It's simple: attacks generate fury while Barbarians out of combat will drain fury quickly. In a way this requires a tactic to begin each fight with primary and defensive skills first. Skill types Barbarian can yield are primary, secondary, defensive, might, tactics, and rage. Barbarians must choose from 22 active skills and 16 passive skills. As always Barbarians can equip belts, shields and weapons which offer more protection and attack power than items of a similar level.
