Dragon Quest Builders 2 Do I Keep My Recipes Between Levels? | Do items carry over between islands?

In the original Dragon Quest Builders, progress didn’t save between islands, which was a fact fans criticized. If this ticked you off in the first game, you’re probably wondering if you get to keep your recipes and items between levels in Dragon Quest Builders 2. Luckily, Square Enix listened to feedback, and this time around your progress is saved between islands, though there is a few caveats.

Do I keep my recipes and items between levels in Dragon Quest Builders 2?

Dragon Quest Builders keep recipes between levels items

In Dragon Quest Builders 2 you do get to transfer progress between levels, but there’s a catch. You can only relearn recipes on the Isle of Awakening. You can do this by upgrading your workbench once you return from Furrowfield, Khrumbul-Dun, or Moonbrooke. However, during the story sections on the other islands, you only have access to recipes you learn there. When you finish the story and return to an island to visit, you can access all your recipes only if you build a new workbench.

As for transferring items between islands in Dragon Quest Builders 2, much of the same restrictions apply. When you leave from the Isle of Awakening to go to a new main island, you don’t get to take anything with you. The same principle applies on if you leave an island without finishing the story; you’ll have to leave any items you’ve collected behind. When you’ve completed the story on an island, this restriction lifts, and you can keep your full inventory even while traveling.

The above only applies to the main islands: Furrowfield, Khrumbul-Dun, and Moonbrooke. When you visit explorer islands, there are no restrictions when it comes to recipes and items. You get to take your full inventory with you, and you can keep any things you collect. This makes them really handy if you need a particular resource on the Isle of Awakening early on that can’t be obtained there naturally.
