Nothing in the game will tell you how to get the most powerful sword in Dragon Quest Builders 2, and the process is actually a throwback to a famous glitch from Dragon Quest 2. The weapon you’ll be getting has the ability to slice an enemy twice in one button press and is rated an attack power of 126.
The best sword in Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a beast, but the process to get it doesn’t make a ton of sense. Fortunately, you have us to show you exactly how to get the most powerful weapon in the game.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 Best Weapon | Get the Falcon Blade recipe
The first thing you’ll need to acquire on your journey to get the most powerful sword in Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the Falcon Blade. To get the recipes for the Falcon Blade, you’ll need to have unlocked the Rimey Reef explorer island. That means you’ll need to be on the third story island before you can make the attempt.
Once on Rimey Reef, you’ll need to seek out a particular super-strong monster. In my experience, the same type of super-strong monsters spawn in the same kind of area no matter what happens. Explorer islands may randomly generate each time you go to them, but enemies will continue to spawn in the same type of location.
The super-strong monster you need to find is a giant robot. You’ll find it by seeking out the location on Rimey Reef that looks like an old battlefield. Every time I’ve visited there’s been one sizeable old battlefield spawn on Rimey Reef, so you don’t have to worry about visiting multiple locations, just find the one, and you should see the giant robot.
Depending on where you’re at in the game, this enemy could be really easy, or the hardest you’ve faced yet. I waited until after I finished the story to take it on, so I didn’t have a difficult time, but your results may vary.
Once you take out the super-strong robot, you should get the recipe for the Falcon Blade. Now, you’ll need to make one at some point. You can do so now, or wait until you have the second part of our best weapon in Dragon Quest Builders 2 recipe.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 Best Weapon | Get the Sword of Ruin recipe
For the next recipe, you’ll have to wait until you’ve finished the game. After the story is over, you’ll gain access to Defiled Isle, which is the place you’ll need to go to get the recipe for the second component required to make the best sword in the game, the Sword of Ruin.
When you get to the Defiled Isle, look for the big poison lake. Each time you load the isle, it’ll randomly generate just one. Near the poison lake, you should find a super-strong cyclops. You’ll need to tangle with him if you want the Sword of Ruin.
The fight with the cyclops isn’t an easy one. I suggest bringing Malroth and Anessa with you. Give Anessa the best sword you have, as she’s going to be fighting more than you are. You can use your second-best sword or the banner to buff Malroth and Anessa.
This fight isn’t too hard to cheese. Try and get the cyclops to fall into the poison lake and bait him to use the attack where he breaks blocks immediately in front of him. He’ll just keep trying to charge you, and he’ll be stuck since he’s leveled too many blocks to climb out of the lake. You can then hit him every once in a while to keep Malroth and Anessa aggroed.
More than likely the cyclops will knock Malroth and Anessa out a few times. This isn’t a problem. Just play keep away until their life bars fill back up and they’ll rejoin the fight. Just stick close to the cyclops, so his health bar doesn’t regen, and you’re good to go. The only time this fight gets iffy is when you aggro enemies other than the cyclops, but by this point, in the game, you should be able to manage.
Once you beat the cyclops, you’ll get the recipe for the Sword of Ruin, and you’ll be ready to make the most powerful sword in Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 Best Weapon | Craft the upgraded Falcon Blade
Once you’ve made it back to the Isle of Awakening, you’ll need to craft both the Falcon Blade and the Sword of Ruin.
For the Falcon Blade you’ll need:
- 3 Steel Ingot
- 1 Silvery Sludge
- 1 Gold Ingot
For the Sword of Ruin you’ll need:
- 2 Orichalcum
- 1 Silvery Sludge
- 1 Humongous Horn
- 1 Terrible Talon
Of those materials, you’ll likely have the most trouble with the Silvery Sludge and Orichalcum. You can follow our guide to find plenty of Orichalcum, and Metal Slimes drop Silvery Sludge.
Once you have the materials needed, craft both the Falcon Sword and the Sword of Ruin. Equip the Falcon Sword first, then equip the Sword of Ruin. Now, if you try and switch to another sword, you’ll get a message that it’s cursed and you won’t be able to unequip it. Good, you’re on the right track.
Now, you need to access a dressing table. Confirm your character’s gender, then go to the weapons section. From there you’ll need to select the Falcon Blade. Once you do that, confirm your selection with the checkmark at the bottom.
Congratulations, you now have the most powerful sword in the game. That little swap in the dressing table menu removed the curse from the Sword of Ruin and leveled the Falcon Sword up from a one-star to a three-star item and raised its attack from +42 to +126. Not only is it now the most powerful sword in the game, but it also retains the Falcon Sword’s ability to attack twice with one press of the attack button. Your Sword of Ruin will be expended to perform this glitch, so if you need one for your collection, or just like the way it looks, you’ll have to craft another one.
As an aside, you can also lift the curse by crafting a special potion. This will let you keep the Sword of Ruin but will prevent the glitch from working.
This little glitch is an entirely intentional easter egg. It references a famous glitch from Dragon Quest 2 (Dragon Warrior 2 in the US). In that classic game, you could get the Sword of Destruction as a drop from a late-game enemy. When you equipped it, The Sword of Destruction had the most powerful attack stat in that game but would curse the wearer when equipped.
Now you have the most powerful sword in Dragon Quest Builders 2. Nothing in the game can touch you, and the fiercest foes will go down in a blink now that you wield the best weapon in the game. You’re now more monstrous than the enemies you fight.
