Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled 1.08 Update Patch Notes | CTR Grand Prix, new event, microtransactions, skins, and more

The Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled 1.08 update patch notes are finally upon us and they do more than just fix a few bugs or change a couple questionably named skins. This update brings forth a new CTR Grand Prix that is themed around dinosaurs. Named The Back N. Time Grand Prix, this event brings with it a new track, some skins, more karts, and a whole swath of other cosmetics that players must earn. However, you may not have to earn them as this update is also bringing CTR microtransactions to the game in a move that is sure to make some people mad. Let’s take a look of what is in store for the update.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled 1.08 Update Patch Notes | CTR Grand Prix start date and end date

The CTR Back N. Time Grand Prix begins on August 2 at 7 AM PT and will (most likely) end on August 25 at 7 AM PT.

This CTR Grand Prix skins and cosmetics are quite extensive but similar to the rundown last time, which means that it will be free to everyone with an internet connection. Players must compete and complete challenges to earn Nitro Points to fill up their green experience bar. They’ll gain new items with each tick. New cosmetics will also come to the Pit Stop and players can purchase those items with Wumpa Coins for a limited time.

While Beenox is not explicitly naming the items like it did last time, here’s what you can expect as the Grand Prix rewards:

  • Nostalginator kart (the pink kart in the picture and the first reward for Bronze Tier)
  • Mammoth kart (the kart with the tusks and first reward for Gold Tier)
  • Baby T. racer (the T. Rex from Crash Bandicoot Warped and last reward for Bronze Tier)
  • Dashing Fake Crash skin (last skin for Bronze tier)
  • “Fake” Baby T. skin (last skin for Gold Tier)
  • Two new wheel sets
  • Two new paint jobs
  • Four new sets of stickers
  • Four new decals

Here’s what you can buy in the Pit Stop for this CTR Grand Prix:

  • Baby Crash racer
  • Baby Coco racer
  • Sabertooth Pura skin
  • Caveman Zem skin
  • Stone Age N. Tropy skin
  • Mad Scientist Crash skin
  • Mad Scientist Ripper Roo skin
  • Probulot 2000 kart (from Crash Tag Team Racing)
  • Lava Rock wheels
  • Various amounts of paint jobs, decals, and stickers

And like last season, players who make it in the top 5% in either the Championship or Nitro leaderboard get a special kart. Good luck.

The completely new track is called Prehistoric Playground and takes place back where dinosaurs and bandicoots roamed together. Well, they didn’t but Beenox seems to think so. This track will be free for all players and will stay in the game even after the event ends. It’s even got a shortcut that players can reach if they bounce off some of the geysers.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled 1.08 Update Patch Notes | Microtransactions

This patch also brings CTR microtransactions for the first time. Like Black Ops 4, Activision has opted to wait a few months to add in-game purchases to the game. Players will be able to buy Wumpa Coin bundles in their console’s digital marketplace. There are multiple bundles but players can still earn Wumpa Coins and buy stuff in the old fashioned way. Keep in mind that this does not affect the game’s Grand Prix as those items are not currently purchasable with Wumpa Coins. You still have to earn those. Beenox has also stated that the Grand Prix items from last season may end up in the Pit Stop somewhere down the line so it isn’t out of the question that these might as well.
