Ancestors: Humankind Odyssey requires you to keep on top of your health (referred to as vitality) and life expectancy if you wish to continue your lineage. However, increasing your health in Ancestors requires you to keep on top of multiple facets of each monkeys’ well-being — divided between energy, stamina, and life expectancy — and your pool of health will decrease over time. This reduces your life expectancy, which when fully depleted, will kill your monkey and hinder your chances of progressing your lineage.
With that being said, here’s our guide on how to increase health in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey:
How health works in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
Health in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is divided between energy, stamina, and life expectancy. All three are shown in the circle at the bottom of the screen.
The green circle represents your energy. You’ll notice that this green circle will deplete over time as you perform actions, with this indicated by a flashing yellow ring. Physical activities such as sprinting and climbing will reduce it.
After the green circle has fully depleted, any additional actions will then be taken from the yellow circle. This is your stamina meter. Stamina is affected by the same actions as your energy meter.
After the yellow circle has fully depleted, you will then move to the final meter: your life expectancy. When your life expectancy meter completely drains, your monkey will die.
How to increase health in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
Increasing your health in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey requires you to eat food, drink water, and get an adequate amount of sleep. You can also quickly increase your energy by way of standing still, which will regenerate the green circle after it has depleted.
Food can be found by smelling your environment. You can do this by sensing (press X) and then switching to smell (press X again). Nearby resources will be highlighted by a yellow glow, and you can hold Y in order to highlight an object. You can hold Y again in order to memorize its location.
You can drink water by wading into the various lakes and ponds scattered throughout the map. You will need to have both hands empty in order to scoop the water and drink it.
You can sleep by remaining stationary and then holding A. Your energy will be restored by doing so. When you sleep for over four hours, you’ll be given a daily regimen update that will indicate how much sleep you need, and how hungry and thirsty you are.
When your health meter is regaining energy, it will be indicated by a flashing yellow ring and you’ll notice the green circle increasing in size. You’ll see a final flashing green ring once you have regained as much energy as you can from eating, drinking, or sleeping. Keep all three survival stats filled in order to ensure that your energy remains at its maximum point.
