If you’re looking to play the latest installment in the world’s most popular first-person shooter franchise on PC, you might be wondering where it is when searching Valve’s storefront. Here’s what you need to know about whether or not there’s a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 Steam release from publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward.
Is Modern Warfare on Steam?
Unfortunately, although a search for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” on Steam will bring back results for all four prior games in the series (that’s including Modern Warfare Remastered), you won’t have any luck uncovering the 2019 reboot. On the PC platform, Modern Warfare (2019) is exclusive to Blizzard’s Battle.net service and is not available for purchase from Steam or elsewhere.
Blizzard is now a part of Call of Duty publisher Activision, together comprising Activision Blizzard, so it makes business sense that Modern Warfare would only adorn their propriety storefront. That won’t stop many PC gamers being disgruntled at the fact that their library of games is being split up, but it isn’t too surprising when you also consider that last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was a Battle.net exclusive.
Currently, there’s no word on whether Modern Warfare might eventually reach Steam on PC. Black Ops 4 hasn’t yet made it over to Valve’s service — which does list the previous three titles in Sledgehammer Games’ series — so that doesn’t bode well for anybody that’s holding out hope over this being just a limited period of exclusivity.
In good news, a Battle.net account is completely free, so Steam players that are eager to take Modern Warfare for a spin can do so at no additional cost to that of the game itself. Standard, Operator, and Operator Enhanced editions of the game are available for digital download.
If at any point a Modern Warfare Steam release is announced, we’ll be back to update this guide and let you know.
