The first thing I wondered when I started playing Dragon Ball Z Kakarot was, “how do you go Super Saiyan?” After all, what’s cooler than when Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, or another Saiyan gets totally pumped and goes Super Saiyan? Some of the best fights in the anime revolve around the form, and with DBZ Kakarot sticking so close to the source material, you can assume the game will give you that feeling of real power.
Unfortunately, you can’t go Super Saiyan right off the bat in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot. Grind as you might, there are conditions you have to meet before you have access to the powerful form.
How do you go Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot?
DBZ Kakarot follows the story of Dragon Ball Z, so you can’t expect to have the Super Saiyan form right off the bat. Instead, in this game, transformations are unlocked as part of the story. So, Goku won’t have the ability to use Kaio-ken until the trains with King Kai, and he won’t be able to go Super Saiyan until the battle with Frieza’s final form.
Once you unlock Super Saiyan transformation forms, you’ll need to equip them in the menu. Once equipped, you can hold RT+LT (Xbox One) or R2+L2 (PS4) and press the button of the form of your choice. Your character will then transform. While using a Super Saiyan form, your Ki will continuously drain, so you have to monitor it if you want to continue getting the benefits of the transformation.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Goku Super Saiyan Form Unlocks:
- Kaio-Ken: Saiyan Saga – Unlocked after training with King Kai.
- Super Saiyan: Frieza Saga – Unlocked before the battle with Frieza’s final form.
- Super Saiyan 2: Buu Saga – Achieved while fighting Kid Buu.
- Super Saiyan 3: Buu Saga – Unlocked while fighting Majin Buu.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Gohan Super Saiyan Form Unlocks:
- Super Saiyan: Android Saga – Achieved while training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
- Super Saiyan 2: Android Saga – Unlocked while fighting Perfect Cell after the death of Android 16.
