The main purpose of the Borderlands 3 hotfix for January 30, 2020 is to introduce the Rare Chest Riches event, the newest in a line of Rare Chest events. The so-called mini-event went live as soon as the hotfix was released earlier this morning, and will conclude on February 13.

Throughout the course of the Rare Chest Riches event, players can expect an increased chance to find Legendary loot within Rare Chests. To make the deal even sweeter, the team has increased the rarity of loot for those watching Borderlands 3 streams on Twitch. The system is a little complicated, however, requiring both streamer and viewer to have the ECHOcast Twitch extension enabled.

There’s really nothing else in the Borderlands 3 patch notes for the January 30 hotfix, but here’s a look at the patch notes anyway.

Borderlands 3 Hotfix: January 30, 2020

  • Activated the Rare Chest Riches event, running until February 13
  • Increased the chance to receive Legendary loot from red car trunk chests
  • Addressed a reported issue that the player could sometimes rise into the sky with the cannon during the “One Man’s Treasure” mission in Moxxi’s Heist of The Handsome Jackpot

This hotfix doesn’t include any bug fixes or balance adjustments. Instead, it simply closes out the Farming Frenzy event that was introduced in the January 15 hotfix and introduces the Rare Chest event. The timing also coincides with the closure of the scaled-down Takedown at Maliwan Blacksite event that was introduced in the January 9 hotfix. That’s right, folks — as of today, Takedown is back to its normal difficulty level. Thankfully, the drive for additional loot isn’t about to end any time soon, and players have two weeks to score even more Legendary gear.
