What happens to dropped items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Dropped Items

If you drop items on the ground in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they will remain in the same place and not disappear. You’re able to travel to and from your island, as well as enter buildings, without those items disappearing. It’s completely safe for at least 10 days (our testing period).

Being able to drop items on the ground in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an easy way to make space in your inventory. Dropping some clay to make room for a new wardrobe, for example, means you don’t have to make an additional trip back to your home.

Dropping items outside also gives other players the chance to pick them up. This is useful for when you want to trade, but it can be problematic if you allow strangers to join your game.

While dropped items won’t disappear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (at least for 10 days, in our testing), it’s recommended that you keep track of items that are dropped around your island. Store them when convenient to ensure you never lose them or have them stolen.
