Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS5

Are there Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates?

Square Enix’s long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally out on PS4 as a timed exclusive, indicating that the game may eventually come to additional platforms. Might these include the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X formats? In this guide, we’ll cover whether or not there could be a Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS5 version and a Final Fantasy 7 Remake Xbox Series X version on the horizon.

Is Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming to PlayStation 5?

According to Square Enix, a dedicated Final Fantasy 7 Remake PlayStation 5 version isn’t going to happen. The company has no current plans to produce any FF7 Remake PS5 port, as we learned from an investor QA back in February.

When asked to share their thinking on cross-generational development, Square responded with the following:

“The next-generation consoles will have backward compatibility, so we plan for the time being to make our new titles available for both current and next-generation consoles. It will, therefore, be somewhat farther down the road that we release titles exclusively for the next-generation consoles.”

From this, we can extract that FF7R will be playable on PS5. Gamers will only be able to enjoy the existing PS4 version via backward compatibility, however, rather than the game being upgraded for and re-released on Sony’s new PlayStation 5 hardware.

Is Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming to Xbox Series X?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Xbox Series X

Final Fantasy 7 Remake hasn’t even been confirmed for Xbox One yet, but, with the PS4 version officially being labeled as a “timed exclusive,” the chances look pretty good in the long run.

Taking into account the above quote, a dedicated Final Fantasy 7 Remake Xbox Series X version isn’t going to happen. It’s almost a certainty, however, that any eventual FF7 Remake Xbox One port would be playable on Xbox Series X via backward compatibility.

Whether the title would receive any kind of visual or gameplay enhancements when played on next-gen Series X hardware is unknown.
