At the time of writing, Ubisoft hasn’t made any official announcements regarding microtransactions in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Going on the company’s previous form, these could extend well beyond just cosmetics.

Previous Assassin’s Creed titles have featured an array of weapons, mounts, and outfits that impact player statistics as well as making cosmetic changes. In addition, premium purchasables like XP boosters and collectible maps have served as “time savers” to expedite the grind for completionists.

Such microtransactions have drawn the ire of many players, though whether they’ll make a return in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla remains to be seen. Ubisoft could be taking the feedback to heart, however, as Creative Director Ashraf Ismail indicating that Valhalla seeks to eliminate unnecessary grinding. If the grind isn’t there, in theory, there’s no need for microtransactions to ease its burden.
