PC MOBA League of Legends has been dominating the genre for years now, and soon, Riot Games will be extending its reach to mobile and consoles. With the iOS and Android versions of League of Legends: Wild Rift fast approaching and consoles to follow at a later date, players are already wondering about cross-platform play. Will you be able to team with friends regardless of hardware differences? Stick with our LoL: Wild Rift cross-play guide for all the latest info.
LoL: Wild Rift Cross-Play | Is there League of Legends cross-platform play?
In order to avoid making “compromises of competitive integrity,” Riot Games has elected not to enable cross-play between League of Legends PC and Wild Rift. This means that console and mobile LoL players cannot interact with PC players. The decision isn’t all that surprising, as gameplay would be incredibly imbalanced in favor of PC gamers. Ultimately, it’s about ensuring that “gameplay feels fair and fun no matter which platform you’re most comfortable on.”
Riot will still aim to coordinate in-game events between all versions of League so that nobody misses out. Seasonal celebrations will presumably take place across PC and Wild Rift simultaneously, but also be standalone affairs.
What about cross-play strictly within LoL: Wild Rift, though? Can mobile gamers engage in cross-platform play with those on consoles? Well, there’s less of a definitive answer here. Riot is “exploring the possibility of cross-platform play between mobile and console” right now, though concedes that there’s “nothing locked in yet.” We’ll aim to keep you posted regarding the final decision.
